Introduction to the Missions Ministry

The Missions Ministry at Road Church is committed to the global objective of spreading the word of the Lord through supporting the following Ministries, working to evangelize unreached people and to grow churches: Pat & Don Barger with New Tribes Missions working with the Guaymi people of Panama and we also have representatives working with African Inland Missions seeking to bring God’s word to Africa.
You can read here more about each of the missions we support. Occassionally, we have special missioners visiting us and we participate in fundraising and/or outreach, as we did when Dr. Jeremy Lowney, from the Haitian Health Foundation (HHF), spoke us on July 11, 2010.
Additionally, we have an ongoing effort to support our local Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center through the leadership of Sally Salancy. We have monthly “food of the month” drives. In August we have a large amount of back to school supplies donated by our parishioners. In December we take part in the PNC “Adopt a Family for Christmas Program”.
The Missions Ministry also contributes to World Vision through the Love Loaf Program. This program provides a powerful way for churches and families to respond to the needs of a hurting world. One congregation can change the lives of thousands of children and families in poverty. Please read here about our 2009 "Love Loaf" Harvest Service. Missions Ministry prepared a special service lead by our young people, who presented the readings and the scripture for the Sunday Service, and who took the Sunday collection. They also emptied the "Love Loaf Bird Feeders" filled with coins into punch bowls. The money was counted and sent to "World Vision" to help feed the hungry.
We added a “Baby Bottle” campaign this year with Care Net. Baby Bottles are handed out on Mother’s day for our members to fill with coins. The bottles are returned on Father’s day. This effort was very successful and will be continued in the future.
